Default 4l80 converter

Im little confused guys. Ive seen some say that we can use a stock or aftermarket billet (still in the 4l70 configeration) flex plate and some saying this tranmission will need a crank spacer.....can someone clear this up for me?

4l80 trans uses a much flatter flexplate and a spacer between it and the crank. Or you can have a hybrid convertor made.

Bubba

It's all up to your Converter maker. You can have a 4l80 converter made for the 4l70 flex plate. This is how mine is. I told Dave at Yank I had an sfi 4l70 flex plate and he made the vert with the right back pads and spacing to work with the existing plate.

Or you can use a 4l80 flex plate with a spacer and use a 4l80 vert.
Hope this helps.

There is .400in spacer on the factory 4l80 flex plate. I think they offer the hybrid incase you already have a good/sfi flex plate.

I have a 4l80 flexplate. If you want I can press out the spacer and send it to you if you think it will help.

Thanks for the offer jay but if dave can just make it to fit the 4l70 I would rather do that.

Ross dave is going to be doing the converter for this one since I've had great luck out if his products in the past.

Your set then. Just tell Dave what you want and he will make it happen.

Bubba,

Here's the flexplate Left Coast and I are running. It's the 4l80 design and carries the SFI spec. Dave at Yank designed my 4l80 SC3000 converter to utilize the wide 6 bolt pattern on this flexplate (unlike the 3 bolt pattern for the 4l70 flexplate). He considers the 6 bolt pattern a heavy duty design. If your running big HP, I'd recommend this. Yes, you'll still have to run the spacer that comes with the flexplate.

Bubba-
I have a 4l80 with a hybrid converter made for a 70 flex plate. When I put tranny in, Id thought I'd order up a TCI sfi flex plate from summit similar to one listed above--which I did. It came with a crank pilot adt which tci said not to use on my application since I had a 70 converter. All went together fine, spacing seemed all good. When I got it running, had a wicked vibration at 3000 rpm, even in park. Tore it back apart and put stock flex plate in (based on Greg and Joe's advice) and amazing--no vibration. I still don't know for sure what caused it,but double and triple check everything you do is balance right and made for eack other--unless you like laying on your back!!!!!
