Ok lets see where this goes. I have 50800 miles on my 06, I have a muffler, K&N filter and using a Superchips turner. 1) should I drive around town in 3 or D? Should I race or hard driving use 3 or D? 2) I have the pressures bumped up with the SChips tune, dont remember what the settings are since its been like that for 3+yrs. Can anyone tell me what the best settings are for the Superchip tune. I have not had any problems with the trans. 3) So with 50k on the trans what type service needs to be done on it? Have heard just do filter and add any fluid needed??
Can anyone chim in and leed me astray on any of this?

Thanks
GaryB

If the trans hasn't been serviced it's about time to drop the pan and change filter, then top off with Dex VI fluid. A trans cooler is a good investment on these also, especially if you do any towing.

I think that GM gets a bad rapp by a lot of TBSS guys for putting the wrong trans into the TBSS but if you don't beat on the truck and you don't mod it the stock trans does great. Of course most of us mod and get on it so that's why we think it's a bad fit. I know from talking with my trans builder that the benefit from the stronger holding pressure is ONLY seen when you have a HD shift kit. If you have a stock trans your trans will NOT redirect more fluid to increase holding power. Maybe that will explain why a lot of guys say they keep it in drive because they don't seen any difference in 3.

Yea I agree. Like where did driving in 3rd become a benefit for anything?
As i have been saying, like most of us I drive the crap out of my truck at least a bunch of times every month and there is no difference 3 or D…
In daily driving I suppose keeping it in 3rd will make the trans shift slightly less but does that mean it will last longer? I dunno about that.
Orig. trans, stock, 137,000km's and counting...

Well, I bought my '06 a couple years ago with a scant 14k miles on it...very low. Yesterday I had 3-4 in the trans fail leaving me with only 1-2. The truck just turned 60k miles and I was due for a full drive line servicing. I'm of the side that believes these trans. are too weak given their application. I guess I either beat on it too much or was unlucky.

I bought mine new, sold it with 75000 miles on it, and towed on the highway in OD every weekend. Still shifted 3-4 nice and firm when I sold it, and still does. Guess I got a good one or I'm lucky

After reading the entire thread, the opinions are still varied on whether 3 or D is better for trans survival. Any new educated updates?

I've raced mine on the street, track, put on some hard run miles.
Always in 3, 4th is over drive & the only time I use that gear.

If on the highway rolling 65 & I decide to hammer down I drop it down into 3rd & then punch it
