Popcorn noise under load..
So I've noticed something lately. When I'm towing a trailer and there is a lot of weight behind me, I get a noise coming from ... Underneath? me? .. Anyways, the noise seems to sound like popcorn in my exhaust. I recently had the cat back changed to flowmaster but it does the same thing. Only when under heavy load and accelerating. Any thoughts???

DFCO or a leak. Are you sure it's not a marble kinda sound? That could be cats breaking up.

Sounds like detonation to me. Do you have a tune? What gas are you using?

Thats what I'm thinking. I called it a popcorn noise but it may be the cats from where the noise is. It is only on Acceleration while towing (dropping into passing gear) and normally only from 45-60mph. I'm planning to get the cats removed anyways, is that normal for them to make that noise when they are going out?

If its during accel, then its detonation or cats, dont do that anymore til you get a tuner to log and adjust your tune. BAD things can happen if its detonation. Now if its the cats, no big deal, just remove or replace em. You need to find someone with a scan tool to make sure its not detonation before you do that anymore. G/L

Yeah, I don't notice any power loss when it happens, it just makes me back off a bit cause it feels like if I don't, it will get worst. I should add that its also at high RPM's. Going to take it in to get tuned asap, was hoping to wait till after the efans, 160 stat and header installs were done...

I would double check your spark plug wires, make sure they are all on and fully snap in. Did you have this problem be for you did plugs/wires?

Get the tune looked at immediately and put a colder plug in it.
