Because we have a full frame truck the cage HAS TO BE WELDED TO THE FRAME! (Our track will not pass a cage "bolted in" on a full frame car.) Lots
depends on how the cage is built and how modified the car/truck/SUV is. If the factory firewall is in place and has not been cut or modified you do not need a bar run inside the dash. If your Main hoop is welded to the frame the sub point are not required. See 20.24 in the NHRA PDF Tim posted. "D" is not needed.
"mandatory when main hoop is welded
to plates on floor and/or rocker/sill in lieu of frame; D-bars must be
attached to frame, subframe, subframe connectors, or OEM
driveshaft tunnel. Refer to text in this section for specific criteria."
Mine is a 6 point that can be upgraded to a 8.5 cert pretty easy. All on how fast you think you will go. If you go faster then 8.5 you don't have a street truck anymore.
There are many small things that can change what you need. A good chassis or cage builder should know everything. My guy includes a NHRA cert with any 8.50 build.

an 8 point is only as good as a 6 point. A 10 point is good to 8.50 along with a 12 point. An 8 point is a 6 point with 2 more down bars going towards the trans tunnel. A 12 point is a 10 point with 2 more bars going through the fire wall.

Whoever thought in 06-07 we would be talking about having to have a cage. I will need one capable of running faster than 10.00 (pretty sure) but also dont want a tech issue at bigger events such as Ls fest or lsx shoot out.

if you would have told me on august 11th of 2007 i would be in the realm of putting a cage in the truck 5 years later...
i would have said that calling you stupid would be an insult to stupid people...
so much for buying this thing to pull a car trailer, and drive daily....

it needs to be 10 points to cert to 8.5. You cant do a 6 point and add the dash bars and consider than an 8 point. Technically it is an 8 point but it will not cert to to 8.5. There needs to be 2 more down bars going main hoop behind the driver down to the trans tunnel area. A 12 point just adds 2 more bars though the fire wall onto the shock towers.
Can we turn this into a shop VS shop thread please? This site slowed down by about 80% from last week haha
