So many different opinons on D or 3. When I asked Matt at Tune Time his responce was leave it in drive so thats what I've always done for regular driving and racing.

The servo is a piston that applies pressure to engage a band that holds 2nd and 4th gear, I believe.
Bigger servo, more pressure (pressure being equal to the force (psi) times the area (square inches).
Bigger servo means faster engagement and more holding force.

I always thought driving in D (overdrive) was bad because the tranni is constantly shifting in stop and go situations (moreso than in 3) creating un needed wear on the insides and shit. now i know the real facts and glad i have left it in 3 unless freeway cruisin. thanks for the info

2006 Stock tbss
NOT grandma driven!
134,000 kms!
95% of the time in 'D'
No issues other than a weird minor 3rd gear vibration

That is 100% normal. That's why I argue with guys who say to leave it in 3...I've gone into detail on why this happens in other posts. Basically, fluid pressure is stolen from the 3rd gear circuit on the 2-3 shift for the over run clutches, when the shifter is in 3.

Thats weird because for some reason my truck's shifting pressure and attitude doesnt change at all if its in 3 or D (and I am definately one to feel subtle anything!).
One thing for sure is (once truck warmed up) that if i hit the pedal quickly even if just 30% throttle(not necessarily wot) then the transmission shifts MUCH more firm in all gears (weather im in 3 or D doesnt matter).
However if i gradually ease on the pedal (regardless of 10% or 40%) then the transmission will shift noticably slower and it slips a lot more.
No tune that I am aware of (I am the second owner).
Another thing i notice that again is not related to 3 or D in my case is when the truck is cold it always shifts more firm regardless of throttle input, again only when driven less than 2-5 min especially in colder tempratures too.
