I just left from the Tacoma area, hated the crime/traffic from hell.
Mild winters with some snow the freaks the town out for MAYBE a week at most. Lots of car clubs in that state if thats your thing. With no alty roads there is lots of older stuff driving around between rain drops.
You have 3 drag strips, one in kent, shelton and bremerton.
Good Luck !!
I don't miss the traffic and my TBSS never goes less the 80 on the freeway ! LOL

It's all relative. Seattle isn't near as bad as LA or Bay Area traffic in my experience, but compared to smaller cities it might be.

Very cool to see someone doing the same I will be doing next year. Been slowly pecking away at my mechanical engineering degree for some time. Do design now in aerospace field. I'll be up rooting and moving some where to finish. Trying for mesa AZ myself. Hope it works out for you.

Good luck with your move and all! I would love to go to ASU or Arizona State, but they dont have the amazing labs like UW has that will apply into the automotive world!

Okay, fair enough, people I know from Reno say its better than our traffic...which in comparison to your Bay Area traffic, is a cake walk!

Been there. I like the sign on the 80' tall doors that warn not to open the doors if the opposite doors are open.
They are/were the biggest buildings in the world. Ever see how a jumbo jet gets painted in an hour? Amazing.
BTW...I too am an M.E.

So let me ask you this, as an M.E. is there much chance of me getting into a Masters Program where I can emphasize automotive related research! My ultimate goal, as I stated in the first few posts is to have a full understanding and knowledge of airflow/fluid dynamics, structure, function, and basically be able to use that knowledge to fully emmerse myself into the high performance aftermarket...I can already do a lot of the work, but I want to know the whats, whys, and the hows of everything related to airflow and fluid, thermodynamics, etc. as it relates to making HP!

To be honest, I don't know what chances you have in getting in, as I am sure they are inundated with applications due to the economy.
When jobs are scarce, more people will either look for more education in order to be a stronger candidate, or take the opportunity of the time they now have, to take classes.
I was in a similar position as you, and that is wanting a position in an automotive related field. Unfortunately, most of those jobs really don't pay the bills for someone married, kids, mortgage, etc.
The hard part is getting into a company that is auto-related. Think about where you want to live as well as where in the field you want to work, and then look and see what kind of education and experience you need.
You can also phone interview with people in the field you like. Believe it or not, some of them like it when someone comes to them like that.
A decent source would be linkedin.com. You can seach a company and try to make contacts that way.
Networking people you know is the best way to get in the door.
So, as to your actual question...I don't know specifically how hard it is to get into a quality Master's Program.
If given the choice, I'd try to get into a quality company who has a continuing education program where they will pay or help pay for your Master's program. The biggest drawback to that is you have night and weekend classes.
Also, if you really want to have some tools for this, master the various computer programs that are used. That will give you the biggest impact. There are the obvious CAD programs, but the FEA and airflow programs will really help. I will go out on a limb and say that mastering them will get you in the door faster than an MSME with little actual work experience.

WOW really ?? Been to cali nobody does the speed limit up there.
Here traffic is WAY worse and speed is ONLY 60 or get a ticket. (Only ONE freeway that goes from ore to can)
Rain makes it worse, accidents are a way to common thing there.
My facts:
driving from Everett to Tacoma from 1989-2009....................
Will take cali traffic any day !!!
Good Luck !!!

Woohoo Seattle! Love the city, hate the rain/gray and the ever increasing traffic. Makes it hard to get through downtown at 80...

Pacific Raceways is not far from Seattle. It is a very ncie facility. I raced there for the first time this Summer. Bremerton is a small, old school racetrack that is on an old airstrip. Has a cool old school vibe....
There's also Portland Raceway and Woodburn just over the border in Oregon, not too far away.
We also have Mission Raceway up here. A good track and well known for setting record ET's with negative DA race days in the early Spring or Sept/Oct.
I can't speak about the traffic there, but the Pacific Northwest in general is a great place to live.
