Keep one thing in mind...the PCM will only learn when in closed loop mode. What I am saying, your PCM may learn part throttle to compensate, but WOT will be affected without a tune.
Now, the black soot...all TBSS's do this with factory tune. They do not run 'rich'. The cause is GM designed in an overshoot of accellerator pump shot (transient fueling) applied to compensate for the lack of PE enrichment rate. This is a strategy for increased mileage/emmissions/etc without you feeling too much lag when you press the gas. If you do not believe me, have someone sit in your truck and floor it in neitral or park while you are behind the truck looking at the exhaust pipe. You tell me if you do not see black smoke puff out just about a second after the gas pedal is hit. That puff creates the black soot you see and is NO indicator at all of the vehicle either running rich or lean at sustained WOT.
