First 2WD TBSS 4L80E Conversion Running!!!!
First 2WD TBSS 4L80E Conversion Running!!!!
Thanks to Greg at Phoenix Transmission!!!
Thanks to Tim (TXBlownTBSS)!!!
I went to Texas to work with Greg at Phoenix Transmission on Tuesday and just got back last night (4 Days).
Greg hosted a full TBSS 2WD 4L80E Conversion at his shop in Weatherford, Texas. Thanks for the hospitality and great food!!
We met Tim at Greg's shop and we went over the plan for a Custom 4L80E in his TBSS with TVS1900.
Greg built a Phoenix Transmission Custom 4L80E, Custom 4L80E Converter and all the LC32 4L80E Conversion Parts that are posted in the 4L80E section. The following is a list of everything.
1) 4L80E Phoenix Custom Transmission Build
2) 4L80E Phoenix Custom Converter
3) 4L80E Phoenix Conversion Transmission Yoke and Universal
4) 4L80E Lokar Dipstick
5) 4L80E LC32 Crossmember with Mount Spacers
6) 4L80E LC32 Flexplate Scatter Shield
7) 4L80E LC32 Cooler Lines with Quick Disconnects
8) 4L80E LC32 Conversion Harness
9) 4L80E Phoenix/LC32 TCM (preprogrammed)
10) 4L80E SFI Flexplate
11) 4L80E/LS Lower Dust Cover
The installation went great!! We then focused on Tuning!! We had to dial in all the shifting and TCC functions. We still have a few small details to finish up. The package should be available in the next 2-4 weeks for sale.
Greg and his very professional staff were essential in the execution and completion of this project. I can not say enough for how grateful I am to work with Greg and his staff at Phoenix Transmission.
Tim picked up his TBSS last night after I left for California. I will wait to allow Tim to give his impressions on the package so far. He should be back home from picking his TBSS up later this afternoon.
We will provide more information and updates as the finishing touches take place!!

This is great news Joe, and a huge leap in the right direction. A reliable and streetable transmission option for the heavy hitters.

I still have more work to do on the tuning side before the package is released. I just need a few days to rest my mind and body.

Right now we are trying to set it up so you purchase the pre-programmed computer with the package to make it a plug and play operation.

Well I've had 100+ fever since Wednesday night, just dropped below 100 this morning on my final leg home from San Antonio to Edinburg, TX. I accidentally took the night time medicine instead of the daytime so I've been a bit loopy this afternoon...and didn't even know Joe had started this thread! I posted one up in this same sub-forum for all to view.
Once again, THANK YOU JOE! THANK YOU GREG! For making all of this possible!

Thanks for the great write-up!! I posted in your thread also!
Thanks goes to Greg and his Staff for hosting and building a great product with great support!!!
The marriage of the 4L80E and the TBSS is one that was meant to be. The dead spots that we have at speed with the 4L70E are now gone due to the gearing and ability of the transmission to hold the power.

I forgot to mention this... I showed up to the shop at 7:15am Tuesday morning and my truck was on the lift getting taken apart before 8am. I'm definitely referring anyone who needs tranny work or anything trans related to go see Greg and his staff. Extremely professional.

We have several different diameter options on the 4L80E from the largest 310MM down to a 245MM in stall speeds as high as 4800rpm. The one we used in Tims truck was a hybrid with a 310MM style front cover and clutch/damper system, larger clutch facing and 280MM turbine, pump and cover with anti balloon plate.

This is correct. Once you install the TCM you will be able to read it with HP Tuners and modify it from there.

The two threads might make the conversations hard to follow so I'll stay in this one for the time being.
Joe/Greg,
Is an AWD truck next?
