6L90e in TBSS Truckin' project!
THROWDOWN FEATURETTE 10/2011
http://www.truckinweb.com/features/1...railblazer_ss/

Well....yesterday Wayne Jones Performance attempted to do the Nordstrom Auto sourced 6L90 transmission swap, but due to a LOT of missing or bad information about AWD 4L70/6L80/6L90 transmissions, we had a few dimensional misfits for our adapter.
The non-sticky 6L80/90 FAQ section ( http://www.tbssowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59446)has been updated. Here's the gist. 6L80 swap won't require the AWD driveshafts to be modified. However the MONSTER 6L90 will require that the driveshafts be modified. Neither will require a new crossmember....so you can keep your factory crossmember.
We'll wrap it up this week once we finish making mods to the adapter.

(4L70 to 6L80 to 6L90)

Thanks guys...I'm hoping to be able to get high 12's to low 13's with just the trans, cat-back exhaust and modest tune. Not sure how the LS2 cam, 4.10's and 4.0 first gear will launch with the stock 1800 stall. I would suspect quite well. Can't wait to try an AWD burnout!

DAMN!!

From LS1Tech:
" Tonight, I went to the track in the Cadillac I posted about earlier.
Drove to/from the track and the car is quiet as a mouse inside while cruising
Mods are:
Livernois Motorsports CNC Cylinder Heads
Livernois Motorsports Stage 2C Camshaft
Livernois Motorsports 2.55” Supercharger Pulley
Livernois Motorsports Idler Pulley
Innovators West Balancer
Livernois Motorsports Upgraded Heat Exchanger
Kooks Longtube Headers & Connection Pipe w/ Cats
Corsa Touring Exhaust
Airaid CAI
Stall Converter
Livernois Motorsports Dyno Tune
The car made 660 RWHP / 602 RWTQ through the factory 6L90 auto trans.
The first pass, I left off idle, went a 1.53 60' and hit the limiter on the 1-2 shift, let off, got back in it and still ran decent.
I them modified the 1-2 shift point, left off idle, went a 1.59 60' and it felt good. I planned on leaving off the converter the next pass, but got booted for no cage... "

Awesome stuff. I think a 6L90E will be on my future mod list. What's the price differential between the 6L80E and 6L90E for a full swap? Thanks,
Tim

Jared, you too? haha
How about you get the 6L90 in, get it all dialed in, and then pull it out and we do another trade?

I'll let you know in about 2 weeks. We're coming across some interesting discoveries and milestones with regards to AWD/4WD driveline designs.
This is causing me to weigh he pros/cons of low cost mods and fixes vs. all new parts.
For instance, the fatter 6L90 output shaft is leaving a thinner wall behind on the input shaft of the transfer case. We have an inexpensive alternative solution to making a whole new gear, which is a press-fit outer ring, but we have to stress/torture test it to feel confident.
Secondly, the front prop shaft has to be elongated. This presents a problem for most balance shops because of the non-serviceable CV joint (i.e disposable). That means if/when the joint goes bad, owners will have to get a whole new prop shaft ($600+ MSRP) THEN have it elongated. So we're looking into just offering a whole new shaft with a serviceable universal.
RWD guys, as usual, just have a yoke and/or driveshaft mod to change.

Today's progress. As predicted, the 6L90 fits within the factory crossmember using the factory transmission mount...BARELY!
Driveshafts are being shortened/lengthened and we'll be a go for this Sunday's Ct LS-engine show.
We also got a lead on a rebuild kit for the prop shaft's CV joints. Once I look into it further, we may just offer a rebuilt, lengthened, and balanced prop shaft to go with the kit.
I also got some insight on getting the Tap Up/Tap Down to work. Hopefully we'll have it wired up in time for the weekend show.
Also got a lead on new muffler alternative. Supposed to be deep and muscular...and super low cost. We'll see how it sounds and performs.

Dang Jesse, very nice. Can't wait to see this thing in action. Good to see it all fits too, that's crazy.

It's alive...it's alive!!!! BIG SHOUT OUT AND THANKS TO Wayne and Nick at Wayne Jones Performances. They were really patient and had a LOT of know how to make this first time install smooth. Driveshafts fit like a GLOVE! All the custom work is clean and professional.
It had the base 2500HD tune in it and a sorta stockish hiybrid LH6/LS2 tune in it so it drove kinda weird on the maiden voyage. Tire sizes, gear ratios were wrong and mismatching. Stock torque management is RIDICULOUS. Wouldn't let full anything near full power mode at anything less than 3rd gear...even then you could just feel the motor being pulled back. Upshifts at WOT were only happening at 5500 RPMS and had the TM freakin' out!! lol. I think it's set for tow/haul mode because it downshifts through EACH gears. Sounds good with the new muffler, but not ideal for long term sanity I suspect.
But I just made a few tweaks to the TCM. While it's still so-so, partial and WOT DOWNSHIFTS are SICK!! I'm talking like NOW. I'm about to upload an ECM TM near-nil reduction tune and enhanced.
Video to come soon.
