This thread should have been titled, '10's for as cheap as possible or BUST!'

scratch the "10s"...
just, as fast as possible for as cheap as possible or BUST.
10s is still a big question mark...

Has anyone considered the possible dangers of running this truck at the track? No safety precautions have been taken, such as a roll cage or fire extinguisher. Would hate to see someone get hurt in this mammoth sized dick swinging contest we have going on here...

My IATs are around 140 with 12lbs. 14 degrees of timing at 7000 rpms. Iats really start to even out over 100mph to 140mph then I cross the trap.

None of us want Walter to get hurt but how is his safety our problem?

A fire extinguisher would be a good idea, but other then that send him out on a solo pass. The thing that I see is being the biggest and most likely issue is if he oils down the track and eats up valuable rental time with clean up.

I am sure we could pitch in and buy one. Hell, I am not even going and I would donate to the cause.

Wow, thanks Kyle. I always pay it forward too, so that means allot to me!
@ two tons - if your serious about that, then I wont bother bringing that stuff. Thanks
Not to worry about the IAT's, its getting converted to E85 as soon as it gets back from the tranny shop. Dropped it off as of 7:00am, but by 2:00pm it was still in the spot where I left it.......sigh. Hope to get it back tommorow, but not holding my breath.
As far as it blowing up, damn guys, it woulda done it long ago if that was the case. After watching Kyles video of him screeching the tires for the first four truck lengths, Im not so worried about doing that as I am keeping up moving after 60mph with the stock cam. I have done several launches with the turbo and the 3600, and I can leave at pretty much any boost level I want too. At 3000rpm Im at 10psi without moving, and I can go much higher if the DR's will take it. Id just rather not run over 17psi if I dont have too being on the stock head studs. Not worried at all about the short block, but lifting of the head can happen and is a real issue for some people. I have over-torqued the head bolts, but no telling if they will take it. Only time will tell, but dont be worried about a damn oil down, if that was goona happen, it woulda done it a while ago.
In a few days I will be doing the higher boost tuning after the 3600 is in, and the CAI is on. (or hood removal mod). Only then will I know how much left I have in the fuel system boost wise. As far as the tranny is concerned, it takes full throttle shifts without slipping, so no issues there. After some timing is put in it, thats when things will get real.
@ JD - why worried about the cage? I doubt Forcefed has one. Im okay doing seperate runs from Kyle if he is. Not sure what he has up his sleeve or not, but even if I dont take the title, I will be happy with whatever time I get. Theres always next year. Im just glad to have gotten as far as I have with the little bit I have invested. By the time late fall hits this year, and the intake, cam, studs, and more boost are added - it will be a totally differant truck anyways. I just want to see how far I can push a damn near stock 6.0 in a 5200lb plus vehicle. Whatever time I get, anybody can duplicate with a stocker, as long as they gap the rings, and add springs. Kinda a cheap option if you ask me.
Still waiting on a response about E85 timing, what nobody run that on a turbo setup?

my post above is me running e85. dont expect big jumps in timing, even thought it has a higher octane rating than 93, its flame is faster. so it can take more timing because of its 105 octane, but can also knock faster because its faster flame front (burn is faster after ignition). I use to run 6-8 degrees on 93, no meth, and now 10-14 is the norm. only added 0-2 degrees in low load areas.

Walter,
Your engine hasn't even seen any real load yet, with your 6* of base timing advance, coupled with high IAT timing reduction. When you put timing in the teens, to that thing, then you'll see shit start to fly.
Personally, I'd be more conservative with the boost pressure, and put the timing back up where it should be, so you don't nuke the exhaust valves. Try timing around 12-13*, and then slowly bring the boost up and see how it handles it. It's too bad you didn't install 317 heads when you had the motor apart. Could have done a 1 for 1 swap with someone, and not added anything to your costs.

I agree with brad. 14 psi is already a lot with 243s on the ls2 even with E85. Don't turn up the boost, get some timing in the thing and watch lambda. You may actually get a couple passes out of it that way.

Wouldn't be the 1st time you cleaned oil off something on the tarmac.

and i agree with both of you, walter i know you have been doing basically what you have wanted to do this hole time even against reputable builders advice but i think you should listen to some of these last little tid bits. though alot of us are doubtful that this thing will hold (me being one) we still want to see some good runs outta this "cheap project build". good luck and keep plugging!
