man you are gonna love the 402. i had the number 6 rod go in mine back in january. Valve seals were leaking and burnt 2 qts of oil. shame on me for not checking it. Finally got the engine together two weeks ago. Tune time dyno tuned it at 411 hp and 403 torque.
Enjoy the new engine.

ETA is month end. I have most of the parts ordered, but still have lots of little things left to order/pickup/pay for, including a new oil relocation hose-end fitting, new 160* tstat and fluids + misc
Other things still needed:
Stall from Griffin
Rat pan from Ross
Trans from shop
Dual cutouts
intake piping/LS7 MAF/filter
Muffler
Catch Can
I spent several hours last night cleaning engine parts in the solvent tank and removing old gasket remnents and seals. I cleaned hard lines, heads, differential, and misc parts.
The last couple hours included cleaning the block and starting assembly.
-mic'd the main and rod bearing journals, which were all within 1 thousandth of an inch to each other
-main bearings
-Crank
-Main caps / ARP studs
-file fit 2nd and top rings for #1 cylinder
-#1 piston assembly
-#1 rod bearings
-#1 cylinder complete
-block cleaned and wrapped
There was a corvette at the shop with 2,000 miles on a brand new motor. This guy paid a ton of money to have his vette built by a very well known company. Trent showed me how the cylinder walls were out of round and explained that this is why it's so important to have a reliable machine shop. This piston wobbles around in the cylinder when you push on it. You can see a lot of the top ring in these pics.

Time for a new block. I think the new sleeves would cost just as much as new block. Really unfortunate.

Sleeves arent that bad. Blocks (new) are expensive big time, unless you can find a used one.
That almost looks like they bored the sleeves for bigger pistons, and put the stockers back in.

I asked the same thing and he basically said that sleeving it would cost just about as much as a new block. Not exactly sure on the details. I think the customer wanted to start fresh with a new block and call it a day.

I know that's what I would do, start fresh and make sure it's done right!

You think $1200-1500 is expensive for a brand new block?

Blocks are not that bad, I had to choose between custom weisco pistons that were 6-8 weeks out or a new block same cost. I went with a new block.
