My 4l80 mount
First of all thanks to Dirty30 for posting up pics ofthe 4l80e swap he was working on.
After seeing the orientation of the stock cross member to the 4l80's mounting bracket I figured I could easily (and cheaply) fab up my own bracket for my trans mount.
My buddy Roy had some THICK angle iron that we cut a 14" section out of, cut and angled the sides and welded back together.
Here's some shots I took before I smoothed it all out
and a quick shot of rustoleum, I couldn't get good pics in the sunlight sorry...
All thats left to do is get it lined up on the cross member and weld it on... done.
Hows that for a FREE 4l80 mount? lol
Transmission is currently getting built at Phoenix (ironically in Texas) and should be ready to go in end of May/early June.

Awesome! Goes back to what I was saying in his post... Keep up the hot rod ingenuity! The "want" to do something.

If you're suggesting this is some half-assed flimsy piece you are mistaken.

Looks good.
Will you be welding it to the stock crossmember?
Any idea on what that piece weighs?

I think he meant that Walter would be proud of you taking things into your own hands and not paying out the ass for parts you can make on your own!

It weighs 6-7lbs. Heavy I know, but I plan on overcoming the extra weight with extra horsepower. lol
And yes, It's getting welded to the back of the stock cross member much like the one Dirty30 posted here...

I agree.....This is how I would do it as well.....
And If PCM has a reasonably priced Harness conversion and Tune, then its well worth it. I just wish the AWD parts werent soo much money, as I would do this as well.

Unfortunately, my buddy Justin has been having a lot of issues since the day he got the TBSS back from the shop that did the work. So bad that even the engine started to knock yesterday. It's in my hands now and I told him I will make sure it's done the right way from now on. Fixing that bracket is already on my to-do list.

The guy that installed the 4L80e actually had it on his '03 Silverado CCSB before it went on the TBSS. First hes been having issues with the rear seal leaking. Then we realized the trans is out of a '91 GM truck. Then the pan gasket started leaking so I pulled it out and to our surprise, the pan only had about 3-4 (maybe less) quarts of old, dark, and metallic fluid. Apparently, the guy was his old dipstick and poured enough fluid to reach the indicator holes on the dipstick. The thing is that the 4L60e/4L70e has a longer dipstick so the reading was off. We drained it and poured in about 7 quarts for now. The specs say about 7.7-8 quarts of fluid after filter service. But since the fluid was so low and had metal shavings in it already, he will probably have to take it to the guy that sold it to him to rebuild it.
So make sure you use a 4L80e dipstick.
