"Stabilitrak active" [issue resolved]

While driving, the STABILITRAK ACTIVE message displays, the yellow light blinks, and the engine bogs down for a few seconds then it's fine. This always happens like 1-2 minutes after I start driving then not again until I shut it off and back on again. I browsed this forum and the only solution I found was to reflash the EBCM. I went to the local dealership and got that done but it still happens.

Looks like other "solutions" are all over the place on here, from replacing the steering postition sensor to adjusting wires behind the brake pedal? Any way to narrow down the problem before spending hundreds of dollars? There isn't a CEL or anything displayed other than when it activates.

Hold the traction control button for 10sec and shut off stabilcrap and traction control.

Mine does it everytime too. 1 thing you can do is make sure all 4 tires are within 1 lb air pressure.

BTW-welcome to the forum.

This is true... But I believe it's fuse 61.

Brian can you explain the sound you hear? Does the "grinding" you hear sound like the ABS kicking in? If so, and it does it while you're turning, I'd bet it's the steering wheel sensor....

What speeds does it randomly activate?

Is there any way for a mechanic to find out what the problem is? It's not throwing any codes or anything.. Just making a scrape noise when I turn the wheel slightly. Could be stabilitrak telling that wheel to hit the brakes when I turn because of a messed up steering position sensor?

If your hearing a scraping noise when your turning I would check your front hubs for play.

Imagine a warped metal disc spinning like a top and you slowly lower a piece of sandpaper down on it. It randomly pops up at any speed almost always while slighty turning left. I've never heard an ABS system sound like a scraping noise when it turns on and my brake pedal doesn't vibrate, but it is on-and-off real fast like ABS.

The scraping noise is the brakes being applied by the stabilatrac. Sometimes when it activates it can apply the brake quite hard. On the Vettes it would lock up one brake at 70mph on the front L or R side and try to though the car off the highway. The problem isn't as bad for the TBSS luckily but still an issue. GM's "STABILATRAC" is the problem.

Sounds exactly like a hub. Mine did the exact same thing, but hub didn't really show wear. Changed out hub and the noise was gone. As for the stabilitrak I would take a close look at the reluctor teeth and the densitometer pick ups on all 4 corners. Make sure there's not a bunch of crap built up in the reluctor wheels on the axles. If so just take some brake cleaner with a straw and clean everything real good. I've seen a similar issue when the reluctor was full of grease and brake dust. You could also have a bad or intermittent sensor.

Is there any way to test it before blowing my load on a new one? I'm not one to just throw parts at something until it's fixed.
:naughty: /jerk

Does it fall on its face? Kills the engine for 3-5 seconds? If so that is how the stabilicrap behaves on the trailblazer.

Yep falls on its face and goes away. But I'm also having the second problem of the brakes, or something, making scrapey noises.

Oh and actually hitting the brake pedal while it's doing it doesn't change the noise at all.

Did you pull the fuse (#58 or #61) to disable Stabilatrac? I'd pull it just to make sure that is the only problem. The scrapy noises is livable, the fall on your face part is not. I pulled the fuse and the power cut still happens. Must be in the tune, because once the car's oil temp exceeds 160 the problem stops.
